Nutritional Supplements for Preventing Gum Disease
Plaque on teeth that’s not completely removed can create problems inside the mouth. When plaque hardens, it becomes tartar…something that is not easily removed and will require the services of a dentist in order to be scraped away. When tartar forms under the gumline, it’ll eventually lead to inflammation of the gums, which is known as gingivitis. This is gum disease in its early stages. A professional cleaning at the dentist can resolve gingivitis, but if it’s not treated, it’ll develop into more serious periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth and bone loss.Besides good oral hygiene habits, there are some natural remedies that may help in the prevention of gum disease.
1. Vitamins C and D. Both of these vitamins are beneficial because Vitamin C is an antioxidant and Vitamin D is an anti-inflammatory.
2. Coenzyme Q10 helps to repair gum tissue and can play a role in preventing gum disease.
3. Tea Tree Oil in toothpaste will be helpful because it can act like an antibiotic.
4. Cranberries are also beneficial, as is four ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice a day. Cranberries can keep bacteria from forming on the teeth. If you’re taking the blood thinner, Warfarin, or have kidney stones, you should check with your doctor first before using this remedy.
Again, the best way to prevent gum disease is to practice good oral hygiene habits of brushing and flossing at home and visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings.
