Quick Health Checks Everyone Should Be Aware Of
There are a few health checks you can keep your eye on to help you identify possible problems:1) Gums that are swollen, red, or bleed easily, are generally exhibiting the tell-tale signs of the existence of periodontal disease- a major contributor to heart disease. Infection in the gums can travel through the bloodstream to other areas of the body, such as the heart. Periodontal disease may also be a sign of diabetes, because diabetics are generally more at risk for infections. If you have bleeding gums, you may want to make an appointment with your dentist to have it checked out.
2) Stuffed nasal passages accompanied by wheezing or coughing may also be a sign of something more serious. It could be asthma, which can have a profound impact on lung function if not properly treated. A stuffy nose can also contribute to sleep apnea. If you have problems breathing through your nose, it would be beneficial to have it checked out.
3) An inexplicable increase in heart rate may also be a sign of something more serious, such as diabetes or heart disease. You can check your heart rate by taking your pulse, counting the number of heart beats in 15 seconds and then multiplying that number by 4. Forty to sixty beats per minute is a healthy rate.
4) Lastly, excess abdominal fat carried around the waist, especially in men, can be a major indicator of heart disease and heart problems.
If you have concerns about any of the above, err on the side of safety and have it checked out.
