Wisdom Teeth and When they should be Removed
If you are concerned about dental procedures such as the removal of wisdom teeth, our North Hollywood dentist can answer all of your questions and help you make the best decisions regarding your dental health.
Wisdom teeth are the name commonly given to the last molars to emerge, or erupt, from the gumline. They are located in the back of the jaw on both the top and bottom, and generally emerge when you are between sixteen and eighteen years of age. However, some people have wisdom teeth that develop earlier or later, and some people never grow wisdom teeth at all.
Wisdom teeth are not a problem unless they are impacted, or growing in a crooked manner. Impaction can take many forms, from a tooth which is completely sideways in the jaw to one that is only slightly tilted. However, impacted wisdom teeth can cause severe pain and can ruin the alignment of all your other teeth by putting pressure on the teeth until they move out of their normal position.
If wisdom teeth are impacted, dental extractions may be required to solve the problem. Wisdom tooth extractions are somewhat invasive but are relatively simply when performed by a professional.
Restorative dentistry may also be necessary if you have suffered misalignment of your teeth, or if tooth decay has set in from problems with wisdom teeth.
If you are experiencing pain or sensitivity as a result of wisdom tooth problems, talk to our cosmetic dentist in North Hollywood about your wisdom teeth and other dentistry needs.
